Watching the child’s eyes
She has something very important
Needs to say it
Looks up at mom
No. Oh no.
I can’t say it
Watch her eyes glaze over
The smile leaving her face
And I cry inside
So young
She has already learned
To stifle who she is inside
Our eyes meet
And she knows
That I know
That I saw
The smile
That isn’t on her face
It’s in her eyes now
Someone understands
A brief moment
But precious, nonetheless
