Falling (A Very Massachusetts Poem)

Bright yellow leaf

Sails across the town common

Almost collides with a man walking his dog

Rides the downdraft and skitters across the sidewalk like an eager toddler

A student crosses the street to the library

Wearing the new scarf her aunt crocheted

Pumpkins on a nearby porch

And a 12 foot Skelly from Home Depot at the house next-door

Let’s wander over to Dunks, shall we, and grab a hot chocolate?
